Find answers here to the most frequently asked questions on the subject of swivel joints.
Where are swivel joints used?
A swivel joint is used wherever liquid or gaseous media need to be transported through a pipe subject to rotaring or swiveling motion.
What are the typical fields of application for swivel joints?
Typical fields of applications are found in all areas of industry in which media need to be transported, filled, suctioned off or pumped.
- Sewage treatment plants
- Cooling water pipelines
- Food processing technology
- Automotive engineering
- Pump systems
What materials can swivel joints be made of?
The swivel joints we manufacture are available in the following materials:
- Steel: St52.3 / 42CrMo4
- Stainless steel: 1.4301 / 1.4404 / 1.4462
- Aluminium: AlMg4,5Mn0,7
Other materials available on request.
What materials are used for the seals?
The seals are made of a PTFE compound. A stainless steel wave spring is used as a pretensioning element.
In what temperature range can swivel joints be used?
Standard swivel joints can be used in temperatures from -40° / +260°C. However, we have in the past supplied high-temperature joints for exhaust gas recirculation applications that have a maximum operating temperature of up to +640°C. Similary, we have also fabricated low-temperature joints for tobacco drying for temperatures down to -60°C.
How high is the maximum operating pressure?
EZM standard swivel joints withstand operation pressures of up to 64 bar. Our EZM TRUCK swivel joint can be operated at a maximum of up to 420 bar.
Can a joint be subject to the maximum permissible operating pressure and the maximum permissible operating temperature at the same time?
No, it cannot. The seal would fail if exposed simultaneously to the maximum pressure and maximum temperature.
How high can the maximum rotational speed be?
The maximum rotational speed musst not exceed 12 rqm. However, for special applications, joints can be supplied that can achieve up to 500 rqm.
What operating parameters are important for drawing up a quotation?
To select the right swivel joint for your operating conditions, we need the following information:
- Nominal diameter
- Operating pressure
- Operating temperature
- Medium
- Material
- Type of design
- Type of motion
- Connection types

Do you offer solutions that deviate from the standard products?
Customer solutions can be engineered in close cooperation with our customers. We can supply you with swivel joints for a temperature range of up to max. +650°C. Our custom swivel joints achieve a rotational speed of up to 25 rqm. For higher speeds, we can manufacture joints for up to 50 rqm. Speeds of up to 500 rqm are possible for swivel joints with relativly small diameters.
